IV Sedation in Kennewick, Yakima & Walla Walla
Feeling anxious about dental surgery or extractions? At EW Implants & Periodontics Center, we offer IV sedation to help you feel calm, safe, and deeply relaxed throughout your procedure. Whether you're having implants placed, a tooth removed, or gum surgery, sedation allows you to get the care you need—comfortably.
Available in Kennewick, Yakima, and Walla Walla, IV sedation is safely administered in-house by Dr. Abdullah Alkanan, a board-certified periodontist with advanced surgical and sedation training.

What Is IV Sedation?
IV (intravenous) sedation delivers medication directly into your bloodstream through a small vein in the arm or hand. This produces a deeper level of relaxation than oral sedation and allows for precise control of sedation throughout your procedure.
With IV sedation, you remain conscious but deeply relaxed. Many patients feel as if they’ve slept through the entire appointment and remember very little afterward.
Benefits of IV sedation include:
- Fast-acting and adjustable during treatment
- Reduces anxiety, fear, and stress
- Helps patients tolerate longer or complex procedures
- Memory of the procedure is often minimal
- Allows for multiple treatments in one visit

Who Should Consider IV Sedation?
IV sedation is ideal for patients who:
- Experience high dental anxiety or fear
- Require surgical treatment such as dental implants, tooth extractions, or bone grafting
- Have a strong gag reflex
- Need multiple procedures in one visit
- Have had traumatic dental experiences in the past
- Prefer not to be fully aware of the procedure
We’ll review your medical history and help determine whether IV sedation is right for you.

Yes. It’s a proven and safe method when administered by trained professionals. We monitor your breathing, heart rate, and oxygen levels the entire time.
Can I eat or drink before my appointment?
No. You must avoid food and drink for at least 6–8 hours before your appointment. We’ll give you exact instructions based on your scheduled time.
How long does recovery take?
