Implant Overdentures in Kennewick, Yakima & Walla Walla

Looking for a more stable, secure solution than traditional dentures? Implant overdentures—also known as implant-supported dentures—combine the comfort of removable dentures with the long-term benefits of dental implants. At EW Implants & Periodontics Center, we provide this life-changing solution across our offices in Kennewick, Yakima, and Walla Walla with advanced technology and surgical expertise.

A Smarter Alternative to Traditional Dentures

Implant overdentures are custom full or partial dentures that snap onto 2–6 dental implants for support. They provide a secure fit that won’t slip or shift while eating or speaking—eliminating common frustrations with traditional removable dentures.

This treatment offers the flexibility of removability with the confidence and strength of implant anchorage, making it ideal for patients who want a significant improvement in denture stability without committing to a full fixed bridge like All-on-4®.

Benefits of implant overdentures include:

  • Better chewing and speaking ability
  • Increased denture retention and stability
  • No need for adhesives or paste
  • Reduced bone loss in the jaw
  • Easy removal for cleaning and maintenance

Expertise That Sets Your Treatment Apart

At EW Implants & Periodontics Center, your care is led by Dr. Abdullah Alkanan, a board-certified periodontist with advanced surgical training in dental implants, bone grafting, and soft tissue regeneration. Unlike general dentists, Dr. Alkanan specializes in treating the supporting structures of the teeth—giving him unique insight into how to achieve long-lasting, secure implant placement.

His training includes:

  • Master’s degree and Certificate in Periodontics from the University of Louisville
  • Extensive experience with removable and fixed implant prosthetics
  • Global continuing education and contributions to peer-reviewed research
  • IV sedation certifications for safe, comfortable surgical care (Explore IV Sedation)

Your implant overdenture procedure is handled entirely in-house with one dedicated specialist—no outside referrals or coordination needed.

How Implant Overdentures Work

Every overdenture case is personalized, but the general treatment process includes:

  1. Initial Consultation & 3D Imaging
We use CBCT scans to assess bone levels and identify ideal implant locations.
  2. Implant Placement Surgery
Between 2 and 6 dental implants are placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia or IV sedation.
  3. Healing & Osseointegration
Over the next few months, the implants fuse to the bone to create a strong foundation.
  4. Attachment of Denture
A custom-made denture is created to securely snap onto your implants. You’ll be able to remove it at home for cleaning.

If necessary, procedures such as tooth extractions or bone grafting may be performed in advance to ensure implant stability.

Fixed vs. Removable Implant Dentures

We offer two main options, depending on your goals and oral health:

  • Removable Overdentures (Snap-On): Securely attach to implants with locator abutments or bars. Easily removed for cleaning.
  • Fixed Hybrid Dentures: Permanently attached and not removable at home. These are often part of an All-on-4® treatment.

During your consultation, we’ll help you determine which type is right for you based on lifestyle, bone health, and budget.

How are implant overdentures different from traditional dentures?

Implant overdentures are anchored to the jaw using implants, making them far more stable and secure than traditional dentures, which rely only on suction or adhesives.

Can I upgrade my current dentures to implant-supported ones?

In many cases, yes. If your current denture fits well, we may be able to retrofit it for implant attachment, or we can fabricate a new one for better results.

Do implant-supported dentures need to be removed?

Removable implant overdentures should be taken out daily for cleaning. Fixed hybrid dentures stay in your mouth and are cleaned like natural teeth.

Will I need a bone graft for implant overdentures?

Not always. Overdentures often require fewer implants, and their placement can avoid thin bone areas. If needed, we offer bone grafting to build up support.

Are implant overdentures more affordable than All-on-4®?

Yes. Implant overdentures typically involve fewer implants and use a removable prosthesis, making them a more cost-effective alternative to fully fixed bridges.
